Vipers Drop Opener to Rocky Point

Posted Sunday, March 28, 2010 by Ron Navas

On a breezy and cold Sunday morning in Center Moriches the 6th Grade Vipers came out loaded for bear in the Beast ( B division east) season opener.  If not for a standout performance by Rocky Point's (and Team Long Island's) Goalie the Vipers attack would have proven lethal.  Center Moriches Midfielder's Keegan Maxwell and Andrew Zito controlled play while feeding Attack Nick Brode for two goals with Zito netting one.  The Viper's Offense peppered the Rocky Point cage with 18 shots, many from danger closer, which were deftly turned away in an outstanding display of goaltending.  On "D" the Vipers Big Mac defended his turf with bone crushing efficiency and power while his partners held ground and played a solid game.  Center Moriches got quality goaltending from Joe Martins in the first half with Anthony Mascia and Liam Morris trading off for the second.

Overall the Center Moriches boys produced a solid effort from which we can build upon.   New offensive sets designed by coach George Maxwell and Varsity HC Kevin Scott were rolled out with the man-up set producing 1 goal in 5 chances.  This is the first year our boys have been up to running offensive set plays and we are excited to see how well they progress.  The players and coaching staff are looking forward to an exciting season and will be back in action April 11 at Patchogue/Medford.
